[BCM, October 1988, p454] "The Haringey Masters, sponsored by Belgian diamond merchant Willy Icklicki, was played at the Durnsford Sports Centre, Muswell Hill, N22, July 21-29. The organisation was carried out by the Association of British Chess Masters, who were thus able to lengthen the summer circuit by a prestige event just before the British Championship.

"The nature of the tournament was rather unusual, a Scheveningen System, whereby a team of nine players per side meets all nine members of the opposing team.

"For the mainly home team the scores were: Hodgson 6(9); Andruet (F), Hebden, Martin 5; Gallagher, Kouatly, Pein 4; Winants (BEL) 3½; Icklicki 2. For the mainly foreign team: Murey (ISR) but now resident in Paris 6½(9); Abramovic (Y), Davidovic (Y), Dutreeuw (BEL), Jacobs, Orr (IRE) 5; Bj. Jonsson (ICE) 4½; Ward 3½; P. Lukacs (H) 3. Thus the latter team won 41½-38½.

"The total prize fund was £2,250. A diamond ring was awarded to Yakov Murey for his win over Kouatly, adjudged the most brilliant effort. Most players performed close to their ratings, except that Byron Jacobs gained 29.7 points and Icklicki lost 35.5. Mark Orr’s performance, if accepted in time by FIDE, will be his deciding norm for the IM title."

21 October 2020	Uploaded with game viewer and crosstable. A missing game added - Jacobs-Gallagher - the score given here previously was actually a duplicate of Davidovic-Winants from the same event. Thanks to Andy Ansel for supplying the correct score. I'm afraid I have no round numbers or dates for this event. One game score, Andruet-Abramovic, is still missing (unless they agreed a draw after playing only one move!). And I've amended the spelling of 'Haringay' to 'Haringey' (apparently 'Harringay' and 'Haringey' are both correct but not the amalgam of the two I previously went with!).
