"Blackpool - The Lancashire Chess Association congress at Blackpool, March 20-22, had no fewer than 323 players in five sections. The top section of 41 entrants featured a clash in the fourth round between Michael Adams and Matthew Sadler, the great white hopes of British chess. The higher-rated won, so scores were:
(1) Michael Adams 4½/5, drawing in the last round with Colin McNab; (2-4) Matthew Sadler, Harry Lamb, Mark Hebden 4. The score of 3½ points was reached by P Crocker (Rossendale), O Jackson (Prestbury), C McNab (Dundee), J Emms (Norwich), D Tebb (Hoylake) and D Wolstencroft (Poulton), with such well-known names as Vic Knox, Jeff Horner and John Littlewood further down the score table."
Major: (1-2) H Duckers, G Haslinger 4½/5.
